Sanctuary Group has appointed two contractors to deliver more than 1,100 homes over the next four years.
The 80,000-home landlord has selected Seddon Construction to build 700 homes in the Midlands, and Keepmoat to construct a further 400 homes in Yorkshire and Humberside.
The group received £90m from the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) at the end of last year through its Affordable Homes Programme, and it is now working on its four-year development programme to deliver more than 3,600 homes across England, involving a total investment of £500m.
The appointments, says Sanctuary,will see the creation of numerous jobs and training opportunities for local people.

Humberside Fire and Rescue Service has won a multi-million pound private contract to provide 24-hour emergency cover to a steel giant in Scunthorpe.
The deal with Tata Steel means retained firefighters will be stationed on site at its North Lincolnshire plant. The fire service said money raised from the three-year contract would fund "community safety initiatives". Tata said the dedicated service would help cut response times to incidents and boost the safety of its employees.
